THE HERO SUMMIT
Vets: America's Secret Economic Weapon

Entrepreneurism is the backbone of American success. When deciding how our organization would address the issue of Veteran unemployment and underemployment, we decided to utilize a transitional job model. In this model, we take on fee for service contracts to provide Veteran clients transitional jobs, training, and then help place them in long-term employment. On any given day, Leave No Veteran Behind directly provides jobs to 75-100 Veterans and their families in transitional work. These Veteran clients work alongside community members and youth in contracts that are addressing some of the most pressing issues in their local communities.

Transitional Jobs Overview

Veteran Demographics
Leave No Veteran Behind's transitional jobs program focusses on three demographics of Veteran clients to address their very specific situations:

  • Student Veterans- Transitional job support is a substantial financial subsidy as student Veterans attend school while using educational programs like the GI Bill. Transitional jobs provides them with added income and limits their need to take on educational debt to support their families.

  • Unemployed Veterans- Receive a stabilizing income that helps support their families while they look for long-term employment. Our jobs model also acts as a reference for future employment opportunities which also helps to mitigate discrimination against those who have been unemployed.

  • Older Veterans- Receive a subsidy to their pension, retirement, and/or social security while providing meaningful engagement within the communities in which they live. This engagement leverages the talent and experience to also help younger Veterans through their integration process.

Wages and Hours
Stipends and wages for these jobs range from $1200 to $2000 a month with the average workday being about six hours a day. These wages and flexible schedule allow Veteran clients a structured platform for Veteran integration.

Training
Currently, our contacts are focused in high turnover industries with low training requirements and flexible schedules. Many of these transitional jobs focus on work with underserved populations like the youth and elderly. The ultimate goal of this training is to provide Veterans portable skills to help obtain long-term employment and provide opportunities to proactively engage their skills as community builders.

Contracts
Currently, Leave No Veteran Behind contracts have been focused around community resilience and safety efforts in the Chicagoland area. These contracts directly employ our Veterans, provide direct revenue to Leave No Veteran Behind for administrative costs, and allows for a pipeline of Veterans into long-term safety related employment sectors.

Leave No Veteran Behind is seeking to build upon our success as a contractor of safety services to create even more opportunities for the Veterans and communities that we serve. Leave No Veteran Behind works with companies and municipalities to provide professional safety services to improve community resiliency. School Safety

Leave No Veteran Behind has created a proprietary system that addresses school culture, administrative training, internal and external safety. Our program works with educators to protect the integrity of the educational process by building solid citizens, and providing schools in low-income neighborhoods with safety and mentorship services. These services decrease safety related incidents while providing structured opportunities for scholastic engagement so that teachers can teach and students can learn without the fear of violence in schools.

Community Resilience

Leave No Veteran Behind not only provides Veterans for safety services but we collaborate with communities to address the systemic issues that lead to unsafe communities. Our daily contact with the communities we serve gives Leave No Veteran Behind the opportunity to identify families and people in crisis needing assistance and information. Leave No Veteran Behind is a member of a network of social service organizations, which allows us to provide referrals and supportive services.

Safety Services

Currently, Leave No Veteran Behind has multiple contracts providing safety related services in the Chicagoland area. Part of our training regimen includes 20 hours of unarmed security training to Veterans selected in our transitional employment program. This training allows Veterans to receive their Permanent Employment Registration Card (PERC). This card allows the Veteran to work in security related fields anywhere in the state of Illinois.
